The Ministry of Housing and Land Reform leads the Government's efforts to expand affordable housing, deliver responsible land management, and strengthen communities across The Bahamas.

Overview

The Ministry of Housing and Land Reform is the lead Government body responsible for the delivery of housing programmes, the administration of Crown land allocations, and the ongoing modernisation of land policy across The Bahamas. We work alongside ministries, lenders, builders, and community partners to ensure that more Bahamians can access safe, affordable, and dignified housing.

To expand affordable homeownership and secure access to land for Bahamian citizens through transparent, accountable, and citizen-centred public service.

A Bahamas where every family has a clear pathway to a safe home, fair land access, and the opportunity to participate in the long-term prosperity of their community.

Our History

Two decades of housing leadership

The Ministry's portfolio and name have evolved across administrations — from Housing & National Insurance to Environment & Housing, and today Housing & Land Reform — but its mission has remained constant: expanding access to safe, affordable homes for Bahamian families.

  1. 2002 – 2007PLP

    Expanded the government's affordable housing subdivision programme across New Providence and the Family Islands.

    Housing & National Insurance · PM Hubert Ingraham (2nd term)

    Launched the Pride Estates III subdivision and led government housing tours demonstrating new construction output.

    Oversaw housing relief following Hurricane Dorian (2019) and led the combined Environment & Housing portfolio through the COVID-19 period.

    Reactivated the Department of Housing's subdivision pipeline and opened the Pinecrest Subdivision (May 2022) — the first new government housing subdivision under the Davis administration.

Note: A single consolidated government-wide total has not been published in one official document. The largest announced pipeline is the 200-home Renaissance at Carmichael development ($20M). Completed and delivered homes through early 2025 are consistent with Minister Bell's "in excess of 70" public statement.
